Commonly, respiratory tract infections of fungal origin have been treated with cinnamon. Studies have shown that cinnamon is beneficial in treating indigestion and loss of appetite. It is also shown to be effective in respiratory tract infections. Traditionally, it was used mainly as a stomachic and carminative for gastrointestinal complaints and is still used for these conditions today. Research indicates that cinnamon may have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Cinnamon has been used as a spice in cultures for centuries. Known for thousands of years, it has been long coveted as a healing aid for stomach upset, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. In East Indian medicine, it has been used for toothache, nausea and vomiting.

People take Cassia cinnamon by mouth for diabetes and prediabetes, gas (flatulence), muscle and stomach spasms, preventing nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, infections, the common cold, and loss of appetite. Some people use it for erectile dysfunction (ED), hernia, bed-wetting, joint pain, menopausal symptoms, menstrual problems, and to cause abortions. Cassia cinnamon is also used for chest pain, kidney disorders, high blood pressure, cramps, and cancer.
