Fennel is a recommended digestive aid and also a useful remedy for cough and bronchitis. It stimulates the movement of food through stomach and intestines. It also relieves intestinal muscles spasms and it is therefore useful in alleviating feeling of fullness and intestinal gas. Coughs and stubborn mucus can also be treated by fennel. Fennel tea is often used to treat infants with digestion disorders. Because of its mild flavor, it seems to be well-tolerated.

Fennel is one of the oldest medicinal plants reportedly used for over 4,000 years and evidence suggests that fennel fruits have been used as herbal medicine in Europe and China for centuries.

Fennel is used by mouth for various digestive problems including heartburn, intestinal gas, bloating, loss of appetite, and colic in infants among othes. It is also used on the skin for excessive body hair growth in women, vaginal symptoms after menopause, and to prevent sunburn. But there is limited scientific evidence to support most of these uses.
